Volunteering with Let’s Talk Science

University life is a multifaceted journey, and while academics often take center stage, the significance of volunteering should not be overlooked. Beyond the confines of lecture halls and textbooks, engaging in volunteer work adds a layer of depth to the student experience, fostering personal growth, community connection, and the development of crucial life skills.

In my university adventure, volunteering with Let’s Talk Science SFU has been a cornerstone of my extracurricular pursuits. This organization provides a platform for university students to design and deliver science workshops to elementary school children.

One memorable workshop I participated in was the “Bone Zone,” where we took young minds on a fascinating journey into the world of bones. Another milestone in my volunteering journey was leading the “Moon Phases” workshop independently.

Before starting my volunteer journey, I was overpowered with nervousness and uncertainty. However, every workshop I am reminded of the innocence and hunger for learning, which inspires me to keep volunteering and helping young minds grasp complex concepts.

As I pursue a degree in psychology, my newfound focus on children’s mental health has emerged as a direct result of these impactful interactions. In essence, volunteering during university is a transformative venture that goes beyond accumulating resume-worthy experiences. It is a journey of self-discovery and a chance to make a positive impact.

Stay volunteering everyone!

Lots of love,

Elisa <3
