Halloweekend !

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And by that I don’t mean holiday season. I mean HALLOWEEKEND!

There are many reasons why Halloweekend (the weekend before and including Halloween) is every university student’s favourite time of the year.

Halloween Fashion Week

Cady Harron says it best in Mean Girls,

“Halloween is the one night a year when a girl can dress like a total sl*t, and no other girls can say anything about it.”

Mean Girls, 2004

And although dressing like a total sl*t is not a necessity for halloween, the second part of her famous quote stands true: no one can say anything about your outfit! The world is your oyster when it comes to picking your costume.

As a proud Leo who has FOMO and refuses to turn down any invites, I had to come up with 4 costumes (and endure a 4 day bender). My bank account might be crying, but my instagram feed is thriving!

“But it’s Halloweekend…”

As you grow up, life gets busier and making plans with friends gets much harder (especially when you’re trying to overcompensate for the toll dorm life had on your GPA last year…)

Going out and getting wasted every night is not too socially acceptable after first and second year… That is, until Halloweekend comes around.

Use Halloweekend as an excuse for anything and everything! Trust me, it very much works!

Got a midterm tomorrow? Work at 8 am? Are you travelling across seas on foot? WHO CARES? It’s Halloweekend!

Candy > Cavities

As the daughter of two dentists, candy was the most shamed item in my household. My mother’s gasps at the sight of Sour Patch Kids still echo in my head every time I pass by the candy aisle. To the Bruci parents, nothing in the world is scarier than a cavity. However, every year for Halloween, the Bruci kids got a free pass for eating endless amounts of candy with no disapproving head shakes!!! As long as we gargled milk afterwards… I wish I was joking…

Now that I am an adult (kinda), I get to have candy whenever I want and as frequently as I choose. But still, it must be the chillness or the spookiness in the air that makes candy taste especially good during Halloweekend. (Or it could be the fact that most of the time people are handing it out for free and I’m a broke uni student. Who knows?)

Horror Movies

Life as a horror movie fanatic is hard… Not only do my friends call me a freak for enjoying the fear I feel from horror movies, but they never take me seriously for movie suggestions either! The real horror is my friends choosing to rewatch “Try Not to Laugh Compilations” on YouTube instead of watching Hereditary.

During October though, everyone is looking for a little spookiness, so that means I can finally put my horror movie judging skills to use! It also means I get to watch my favourite movies with my favourite people.

A message from Elisa to fellow horror fans:

You’re not a freak, it’s just not your time to shine yet!

Until next Halloweekend my spookies!

Lots of love,
